Rep. Labriola: Pretrial Justice Reform Could Endanger Public Safety

HARTFORD – This weekend the House of Representatives voted on a bill, H.B. 7044, that makes changes to laws concerning pretrial detention for certain crimes. State Representative David Labriola (R-131) stood to share his concern that this legislation would endanger our public safety as it interferes with a judge’s discretion on setting bonds for potentially very serious misdemeanors. Protects Core Services, Boosts Education Aid, Creates Stability for Towns & Cities and Does Not Rely on Tax Increases

 
Area Republican state lawmakers on Apr. 27 unveiled an alternative state budget which closes the current projected state deficit over the next two years without new taxes and without pushing state expenses onto towns, cities or hospitals.

The “Confident Connecticut” budget includes increased education funding with a new funding formula, restores money for core social services, and provides for significant structural changes to state government that roll out into the future.

“With this proposal, we demonstrate that Connecticut’s budget can be balanced with no tax increases whatsoever,” said Rep. David Labriola (R-131). “Instead we offer common sense solutions to our state’s budget woes.”

Celebrates CBIA Day at the Capitol

 
HARTFORD – Connecticut Business Day was held today at the Capitol as an opportunity for entrepreneurs, CEOs and Chamber of Commerce members of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) to meet with their legislators. Town receives grant to cover cost of police body cameras

HARTFORDState Representative David Labriola (R-131) today applauded the Bond Commission for voting in the affirmative on a reimbursement of funds to local police departments for body cameras and related equipment.

HARTFORD – A bill proposed by Oxford’s State Representative David Labriola (R-131) was brought today to a public hearing held by the Legislative Transportation Committee. The bill (House Bill 5577) would name Route 67 in Oxford in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Howard Belinsky.

HARTFORDState Representatives David Labriola (R-131) and Rosa C. Rebimbas (R-70) have again, as in previous sessions, proposed legislation to the Labor and Public Employees Committee asking for consideration regarding amendments to the collective bargaining statues to limit binding arbitration awards for increased wages to reflect, or stay within, the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Binding Arbitration is the process by which collective bargaining disputes are settled amongst three judges. These disputes typically arise between a town and a union over negotiations of a new or expired contract outlining benefits and wages.
