Town receives grant to cover cost of police body cameras

HARTFORDState Representative David Labriola (R-131) today applauded the Bond Commission for voting in the affirmative on a reimbursement of funds to local police departments for body cameras and related equipment.

The Commission met this morning in a special meeting at the Capitol to make a decision regarding the use of existing funds to reimburse 11 municipalities, including $23,928 for the Naugatuck Police Department, for the purchase of body cameras and video storage.

“Investing in the safety of our community will protect both the police and the public while assisting in the identification of criminals and potentially reducing allegations of police misconduct,” said Rep. Labriola, who thanked the Commission for their inclusion of Naugatuck in their decision.

Total requested funds of $870,310 will reimburse 11 municipalities in all.
