State Grants Announced for Cemetery Maintenance

(HARTFORD) — Today, Governor Lamont and the Connecticut Office of Policy Management has announced the availability of state grants to municipalities for maintenance of neglected cemeteries. Each grant is $5,000 and will be released under the state’s Neglected Cemetery Account Grant Program.

The governor’s office released a list of municipalities that have been selected to receive a grant, upon the successful submission and approval of required contractual documents:

  • Andover
  • Berlin
  • Bethany
  • Bethlehem

(HARTFORD) — On Friday, State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) testified in front of the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee with his strong support for House Bill 6921, “An Act Concerning the Amount of the Apprenticeship Tax Credit for the Construction Trades.” As stated in his testimony, the bill seeks to incentivize more students, youth, and residents to join Connecticut’s skilled trade workforce.

If passed, HB6921 would raise the tax credit from $4,000-$7,500 a year for hired apprentices

On Friday, March 10th, the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee will host a public hearing to consider House Bill 5290, An Act Sunsetting the Highway Use Tax. This Republican-led proposal was initially denied a public hearing by Democratic colleagues, until House Republicans used a parliamentary procedure securing the 51 required signatures to force a public hearing for a bill.
