HARTFORD – State Representative Lezlye Zupkus (R-89th) submitted testimony Tuesday in support of legislation she requested that would reduce by half the fees paid by veterans or armed forces members for the production costs of certain veterans license plates, “Support Our Troops!” license plates, and certain administratively created veterans and military organization license plates.

House Bill 5287 was raised for a public hearing on Tuesday before the joint Veterans Committee in the Connecticut General Assembly. License plates, such as the Support Our Troops version, currently cost $60.

“I believe that reducing this fee would be a simple, yet significant action in our ongoing efforts to acknowledge their sacrifice and convey our gratitude to those serving and who have served in the military,” said Rep. Lezlye Zupkus. “We continuously benefit from the sacrifices made by our veterans. This bill represents an opportunity for us to acknowledge such sacrifice and show solidarity with those who are currently serving, and have served.”

The bill now awaits advancement out of the Veterans Committee.
