HARTFORD – On Friday, State Rep. Joe Polletta (R-68) announced a bill proposal that will restore qualified immunity for law enforcement officers in Connecticut. The bill, HB 5366, would reel back provisions from the controversial 2020 Police Accountability Bill passed through the General Assembly.

“Residents concerned for their safety and law enforcement officers concerned of personal liability on the job have made it ultimately clear that certain aspects of this dangerously flawed legislation need to be reeled back,” Rep. Polletta (R-68) said. “Restoring qualified immunity to police officers will remove some of the unnecessary hamstrings from their daily operations, giving them rightful agency in making split-second decisions that will save lives.”

This proposed bill was referred to the legislature’s Public Safety & Security Committee, of which Rep. Polletta is a member and strong advocate for law enforcement and community safety.

No further action has been taken on the bill as it awaits deliberation and a public hearing.
