January is Firefighters Cancer Awareness Month

Today in Waterbury, I joined fellow state lawmakers, Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, local officials, and Fire Service leaders to recognize January as Firefighters Cancer Awareness Month. I am proud to have supported a landmark Firefighters Cancer Prevention Bill which finally passed in 2023.
The legislation ensures that firefighters who develop cancer from occupational exposure will not have to fight to receive treatment and their families will not question whether they will receive benefits. It is a monumental step in Connecticut supporting the brave men and women who serve and protect its communities every day. Thank you all for your sacrifices and service!
