Shore Line East Service Changes Effective April 3, 2023

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is alerting riders that a new Shore Line East (SLE) schedule will start April 3, 2023, to support the Penn Station Access (PSA) project and restore some prior construction service adjustments following the completion of the switch replacement project in Old Saybrook, CT.

The PSA project is intended to enable Metro-North trains to use the Hell Gate Line to connect to the west side of Manhattan directly into Penn Station, ultimately expanding traveling

I-95 Interchange 74 Improvements at Route 161 and Bridge Replacement Project, East Lyme

On Monday, April 3, 2023, the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will start construction for I-95 Interchange improvements at Exit 74 and Route 161 in East Lyme.

The project is intended to improve the safety on Interstate 95 at Exit 74 and address traffic operational concerns between Exits 74 and 75. The replacement of Bridge No. 00250 (I-95 over Route 161) due to its poor condition. In addition, the improvements on Route 161 (Flanders Road) will address traffic operational concerns

Arts Endowment Fund Grants Awarded Locally!

The Connecticut Office of the Arts recently awarded Connecticut Arts Endowment Fund (CAEF) grants totaling $864,233 to 165 organizations across the state.

CAEF grants provide general operating support that organizations may use toward program­ming, administrative or operational costs, capital projects, equipment, or to build their own endowments.

Locally, one of these incredible grants has been awarded to Waterford’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center ($21,255)!

Each year, the IRS produces a list of its “Dirty Dozen” tax scams which tend to spike from December through April, but they can—and do—happen year-round.

Using the tips below can help keep your information and accounts safe.  Remember, if you’re unsure who you’re communicating with, or something just doesn’t feel right, please don’t click Internet links or provide personal, sensitive information online or over the phone.

Rep. Kathleen McCarty recently met with students, concerned educators and parents regarding Seizure Safe School legislation.   As a former educator, and current Ranking member of the legislature’s Education Committee, Rep. McCarty is concerned with all aspects of our education system, especially the safety of all students.

Nationally, Seizure Safe Schools legislation generally mandates school personnel complete seizure recognition and first aid training, require students with epilepsy to have a Seizure

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is encouraging the public to attend upcoming Vision Zero Council meetings to learn more about ongoing efforts to reduce roadway injuries and fatalities in Connecticut, and how to participate in future subcommittee meetings. I was happy to join my colleagues to promote a different way forward with regard to educating our students.  This year, House Bill 5003 proposes to speed up the Educational Cost Sharing (ECS) funding formula to provide much-needed funding to our districts.
