WOLCOTT – Rep. Gale Mastrofrancesco, R-Wolcott, took part in Flag Day ceremonies at Wakelee Elementary School on Wednesday, June 14 that included raising of the U.S. flag by students and several songs performed by the student choir.

The kindergarteners also made paper poppies for veterans of the American Legion Post 165, and in turn the post created a poster out of those poppies as a keepsake that will hang in their hall.

Flag Day is observed on June 14 of each year after President Woodrow Wilson’s issuance of a 1916 proclamation for the national observance. On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the flag of the United States.
