WOLCOTT – Rep. Gale Mastrofrancesco, R-Wolcott, recently visited Wakelee Elementary School where she served as a guest reader for Read Across America week.

Rep. Mastrofrancesco read “Daisy-Head Mayzie,” by Dr. Seuss to the third-grader class, which served as an opportunity to promote literacy.

“Our read today was an opportunity to promote literacy and the joy of reading in our schools. The students were bright, engaged and have great teachers to guide them,” said Rep. Mastrofrancesco. “I look forward to returning next year!”

The National Education Association launched Read Across America in 1998 as a year-round program to celebrate reading. Dr. Seuss’ birthday was March 2 and was declared Read Across America Day, which kicks off Read Across America Week and Read Across America Month.
