HARTFORD – State Representative Tami Zawistowski (R-61) and State Senator John Kissel (R-7) joined Suffield resident Grace Dowling to advocate for SB 778 ‘An Act Establishing a Green Alert System for Missing Veterans’ on Thursday, February 14th.

The legislation would establish a Green alert system to help locate Veterans who have been reported missing. The Green alert concept is similar to existing Amber alerts for missing children and Silver alerts for senior citizens.

In her testimony Grace Dowling noted Veterans can face unique risks including PTSD and a Green alert system could help law enforcement and communities more quickly locate missing Veterans.

Rep. Zawistowski commented, “This special type of alert may help save the lives of at-risk veterans. Rather than waiting the typical 24 hours for reporting missing persons, a green alert could be activated quickly, thereby saving precious hours in a search.”

The Green alert was first adopted in Wisconsin and is now being considered by other states. For more information about the legislation visit the General Assembly’s website at www.cga.ct.gov.
