During today’s legislative session, Miss Puerto Rico of Greater Hartford, Isabelle “Mandy” Young Guzmán, and her mother, Mildred Guzman-Young visited the House of Representatives where I was able to introduce her on the House floor.   Once the official welcome was finished, Majority Leader Rep. Jason Rojas came over to congratulate Mandy on her success.  During the conversation, Rep. Rojas noted how his children also took part in the same pageant contest several years earlier.

It’s always a privilege to highlight the people from our community!

Mandy, a Suffield resident and current student at Central Connecticut State University studying political science, was crowned in 2023 during the annual Miss Puerto Rico of Greater Hartford Cultural Pageant.  Earlier this year, we met in my office to discuss state policy, proposed legislation, and the role of women in Connecticut politics, especially state service.
