EAST GRANBY – Old New Gate Prison and Copper Mine celebrated the completion of its renovation on June 18.

The renovation project included the restoration of the museum entryway, the construction of a new picnic area, and installation of new exhibits.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the completion of this important renovation project,” Museum Curator Morgan Bengel said. “Old New Gate Prison and Copper Mine is a valuable part of Connecticut’s history and this project will help to ensure that it is preserved for future generations.”

“The renovation of Old New Gate Prison and Copper Mine is a great example of how we can preserve our history while also making it more accessible to the public,” East Granby First Selectwoman Eden Wimpfheimer said. “I encourage everyone to come out and celebrate the completion of this project.”

“Congratulations to Friends of Old New Gate on completing such an ambitious project that welcomes visitors to visit the museum with a beautiful and accessible new walk and landscaping – and encourages them to stay and enjoy the view from the new picnic tables,” state Rep. Tami Zawistowski said. “Old New Gate is a historically important part of our region and the state as a while, and to have a group like the Friends supporting visitor-friendly improvements makes it an even greater asset to our local communities.”
