Vail Tapped to Continue Lead House Republican Role on Veterans’ Affairs Committee
HARTFORD – State Rep. Kurt Vail (R-Stafford) was asked by House Republican Leader-elect, Vincent Candelora, to continue his leadership role on the legislature’s Veterans’ Affairs Committee on Friday. This will mark Vail’s second consecutive term serving the legislature as the highest-ranking House Republican on the committee.
“Working with many veterans throughout Connecticut has been an extremely humbling experience. Locally, the organizations in Somers and Stafford have been instrumental in assisting veterans in the 52nd district, and I will continue to bring their voice with me to Hartford as we tackle issues that impact them. It is truly an honor to work with our veteran community, ensuring all individuals who served in our country’s armed forces are provided with the benefits they earned,” said Rep. Vail.
Vail has been instrumental in new laws that provide veterans with greater employment opportunities, lower cost of living, and life-sustaining benefits. The Veterans’ Affairs Committee has cognizance of all veteran-related matters arriving at the state legislature. Vail has demonstrated the ability to reach across the party aisle and deliver public policy that supports veterans statewide.

In addition to his ranking member role, Vail will continue to serve on the Public Safety Committee and will join the Higher Education Committee. Public Safety oversees police, fire and EMS operations, as well as regulated gaming. Higher Education is focused on providing Connecticut’s students with support as well as career path options.
The legislature will convene the 2021 session on Wednesday, January 6.
