Stafford – State Representative Kurt Vail (Somers/Stafford) took part in the groundbreaking of Woodland Springs Monday. The development will serve as an affordable housing option for seniors currently residing at Avery Park.
The groundbreaking commemorated the collaborative efforts of federal, state and local leaders. At the state level, grant monies were secured through the Small Town Economic Assistance Program, which is administered through the state’s Office of Policy and Management. Funds were used to link water and sewage service to the development.
“I think a lot of the work to get this project to come to fruition, at the state level, is a result of the hard work of my predecessor Penny Bacchiochi,” state Rep. Vail, “My office supported Stafford’s request for funding because we need to make sure that we have an affordable housing option for our largest growing population, which is notion clearly illustrated by the revitalization of Avery Park.”
The revitalization project will consist of the construction of 71 affordable units. Of those units, 16 will also provide supportive services.
