STAFFORD – On Wednesday morning State Representative Kurt Vail (R-Stafford) joined Stafford’s First Selectman, Mary Mitta, along other local officials to commemorate the receipt of a FEMA grant.

FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is awarded based on need of communities throughout the country.

Rep. Vail said, “It’s important that our local firefighters have the resources they need in order to effectively respond to emergency situations. I was proud to submit a letter of support to secure the grant money and would like to thank all those who were involved in making sure Stafford Fire Department 1 received the funding it deserves.”

According to Vail, the grant process is extremely competitive. The fire department will use the grant money to purchase new air packs (SCBAs) with state of the art escape systems.

Vail concluded, “I am confident that our first responders will benefit greatly from the newly purchased equipment. Thank you to all the firefighters in our community for keeping us safe at all times.”
