VAIL TO SERVE AS RANKING MEMBER OF VETERANS’ AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

HARTFORD – House Republican Leader Themis Klarides assigned members to their legislative committees on Tuesday afternoon at the State Capitol. She has asked that State Representative Kurt Vail (R-Stafford) serve as the Ranking Member to the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, and to continue his service on the Public Safety and Security Committee as well as the Insurance and Real Estate Committee.

“In the upcoming session, I will assume a new role as Ranking Member of a legislative committee.  I am excited to be more involved than ever with the legislative process and to shepherd quality public policies through our Veterans’ Affairs Committee.  Especially in tougher economic times, it will remain a top goal of mine to ensure that those who served our nation are afforded the benefits that they earned while protecting our freedoms,” stated Rep. Vail.

The Connecticut General Assembly will convene for a five-month period beginning on Wednesday, January 9. Legislative committees will begin to meet shortly thereafter to consider and debate specific pieces of legislation before they can be voted into law on the House or Senate floors.

Vail also commented on his additional committee assignments, “Insurance is the primary committee of cognizance on matters related to crumbling foundations.  The work of this committee has driven some progress toward remedying the situation, but there is much to be done and I look forward to continuing my advocacy for those affected by faulty concrete.  In terms of more general public safety issues, it is important that our first responders have the resources needed to be effective in their daily tasks.”

Legislators currently have the opportunity to submit individual bill proposals. Vail and the entire membership of the legislature have roughly a week and a half after the beginning of the legislative session to submit such proposals, which are then disseminated to be considered by the specific committee of cognizance.
