Vail Provides Update On Crumbling Foundations

I wanted to provide you with an update on the crumbling foundation issue that has affected many homes across North Central Connecticut.
Cracks indicating that a foundation could be in danger of crumbling may not surface for up to ten years, or in some cases it could take even longer. The state’s Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) is currently collecting formal complaints if you feel as though your home has been affected by faulty concrete. It is critical that the state ascertain an accurate number of foundations that have been affected so the overall scope of the issue can be determined.
When you start filling out your complaint form, it’s important to have as much information as possible about your home. You may also wish to include pictures, or other evidence from your foundation to show the issues you may have.
Additionally, you can contact DCP directly if you have specific questions about what may qualify as a crumbling foundation by e-mailing dcp.concrete@ct.gov.
The Insurance Department is also a resource you can contact with insurance related questions or complaints specific to your policy. Residents are encouraged to email individual insurance related questions to cid.ca@ct.gov, or call the Insurance Department at 800-203-3447.
If you have any questions about this issue, or any other matter regarding state government please do not hesitate to contact me by e-mailing me at Kurt.Vail@housegop.ct.gov or by calling toll free 800-842-1423.
