HARTFORD – A ceremonial bill signing of Public Act 15-204 marks the end of a ban on Sunday hunting in the state of Connecticut. The law is aimed at reducing the overall deer population, which will ultimately preserve the environment said State Representative Kurt Vail, who represents Somers and Stafford.
The law, which will take effect on October 1, requires hunters to obtain written permission to hunt on private property on Sundays. The law also requires that all hunting must take place outside of 40 yards of a clearly marked hiking trail.
“This is a big victory for hunters throughout the state because it allows more time for those with busier schedules during the week another option to hunt on the weekend,” said Rep. Vail. “This is also a realistic way to deal with the fast growing deer population.”
All hunting must fall with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s wildlife management plan and principles.
