HARTFORD – The State Bond Commission is expected to meet on Friday morning to act on several agenda items, including a significant line-item for the Town of Woodstock. Pending the final action of the commission, the town can expect $225,000 for the replacement of the Woodstock Volunteer Fire Department’s exhaust system. According to State Rep. Kurt Vail (R-52), this is a welcomed investment toward improving community public safety.

“This is an important upgrade for firefighters in Woodstock. I applaud the investment in creating a better working environment for our community’s first responders,” said Vail, who serves on the legislature’s Public Safety committee.

The request was put forth to improve air quality for Woodstock’s Volunteer Fire Department, which is comprised of Bungay Fire Brigade, Muddy Brook Fire Department, and Woodstock Volunteer Fire Association Sta. 76. The request called for the removal of antiquated diesel exhaust systems. Firefighters are subjected to dangerous particulates when fighting fires, this removal project will help limit exposure to some toxic fumes.

The Bond Commission will meet on Friday, June 7th, in room 1E of the Legislative Office Building at 10:30 a.m. The full meeting agenda can be viewed here (the Town of Woodstock line-item can be found on pg. 75).
