TRUMBULL – On Friday, students and teachers from across the state celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday which lovingly coincides with Read Across America Day, complete with special activities – including a special guest reading by a local state legislator! State Representative David Rutigliano (R-123) was honored to participate with reading the pledge to all the students gathered for an assembly at Tashua Elementary School and reading ‘Kindness is a Kite String’ by Michelle Schaub.

“I want to thank Tashua Elementary School, all the teachers and administrators, and especially all of the students for allowing me to come and visit and read with them. I enjoyed seeing each and every one of their wonderful smiles,” said Rep. Rutigliano. “Reading is a fundamental skill and a key that unlocks many doors to success, allowing students to be more creative and think outside of the box. Once learned, reading is skill that we will use continually, and it is important that students learn the importance of daily reading, beginning at an early age.”

The National Education Association launched Read Across America in 1998 as a year-round program to celebrate reading. Given Dr. Seuss’ impact on the reading world, his birthday (March 2) was declared Read Across America Day. This also commences Read Across America Week and Read Across America Month.
