Rep. Nuccio Gives Keynote Address for Alyssiah Wiley End Relationship Violence Awareness Event

WILLIMANTIC – Rep. Tammy Nuccio, R-Tolland, provided the keynote address for the 4th Annual Alyssiah Wiley End Relationship Violence Awareness Event at Eastern Connecticut State University.

The event was organized in Alyssiah’s memory to bring awareness of unhealthy relationships, to educate the campus community on the prevalence of intimate partner violence and the devastating consequences of relationship violence.

Alyssiah Wiley was a 20-year-old sophomore at Eastern in 2013, when she left her campus dorm in a vehicle driven by her then boyfriend. Tragically, Alyssiah’s partial remains were found in a wooded area near the home of her ex-boyfriend, who would later be convicted of her murder.

Alyssiah’s mother, Corrinna Martin, suffered even more loss when her second daughter and 9-year-old granddaughter were murdered by her live-in boyfriend. She now shares her daughter’s story across the state and advocates to prevent domestic abuse.

Rep. Nuccio, who has made preventing domestic violence a focus of her work in the legislature, thanked the organizers, including Professor Brenda Westberry, for their continued work and for inviting her to share her thoughts.
