HARTFORD – Today, State Representative Carol Hall (R-59) joined her fellow Republican and Democrat colleagues by officially kicking off the 2022 legislative session.

Per this new session, Rep. Hall would like to readdress the police accountability bill that was passed in the summer 2020. She would like to restore their qualified immunity, ability to request a consent search during a motor vehicle stop when reasonable suspicion exists, and protections to officers who receive a mental health assessment, so they are able to seek treatment without fear of discipline, or of losing their jobs.

Additionally, Rep. Hall would also like to revisit two bills she sponsored last session. One to expedite lifesaving services to individuals who have been given Narcan by allowing any police officer with reasonable cause, to take victims to a hospital for emergency examination and the second to require all solar farms to comply with local planning and zoning laws.

“I’m excited to kick off a new legislative session and to be back in the building and working face-to-face with my colleagues and members of the public,” Rep. Hall said. “I want to remind residents from Enfield and East Windsor to reach out to me with any issue they may be facing. While this session is limited in what we can introduce legislatively, I do still want to hear from you on issues that are of importance to you and your family.”

In the second year of a two-year legislative cycle, the main goal of the legislature is to make any necessary adjustments to the budget adopted in the previous year. Any new laws or adjustments to previously passed laws must be budgetary related. All bills brought forth in the shorter session must come through the committee that has oversight into the issue being presented.

The 2022 legislative session will adjourn at midnight on Wednesday, May 4.
