Today, Senator Paul Cicarella and I met with Wallingford inventors Olivia Soto and Bo Ballough, who participated in a town-wide invention convention and advanced to the state finals in March of 2023.
Olivia, a 5th-grade student at Pond Hill Elementary School invented the “Remarkerble 4.0,” a refillable marker. Her product helps the environment while saving the buyer money. Designed with an end cap loop so it can be removed, and a new ink tube can be inserted. The ink tubes would be sold individually.

Bo, a 5th-grade student at Rock Hill Elementary School, invented the “Density Alert,” to help measure snow density to help people avoid moving “Heart Attack Snow.” Bo has a passion for weather and created the Density Alert by filling a mason jar with snow before placing it into a jug of water to see how the jar reacted. Depending on whether the jar floats, stays in the middle, or sinks, you can ascertain if it’s safe to shovel or if you should get help.
The state judges were impressed with their achievements, and they were selected for the National Invention Convention and scheduled to present at the Annual Raytheon Technologies Invention Convention U.S. Nationals at The Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan in June 2024.
