HARTFORD— State Rep. Christie Carpino and her fellow House Republicans have used a parliamentary procedure to overcome Democrat opposition to a bill that would save inflation-weary businesses and residents money by eliminating the new highway use tax (HUT) on heavyweight trucks.

Republicans petitioned to raise H.B. 5290, An Act Eliminating the Highway Use Tax, after the Finance Committee leaders refused to schedule a hearing on it.   On Tuesday Republicans secured the required 51 petition signatures

House Finds Agreement on Free Lunches & Financial Guardrails

The House of Representatives recently met to act on emergency certified legislation extending the state-wide school free lunch program through the remainder of the school year and re-instituting fiscal guardrails prior to the start of budget negotiations. CROMWELL – The Radiological Society of Connecticut (RSC) has recognized state Representative Christie Carpino for her leadership and advocacy in expanding insurance coverage of breast cancer screenings and tests. A certificate of Recognition was presented to her by RSC’s Dr. Michael Crain.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s important to know that early detection can save lives. I supported a new law this year that will expand insurance coverage for breast cancer screenings. Specifically, it requires coverage for certain genetic testing, including for breast cancer gene one (BRCA1) and breast cancer gene two (BRCA2), under certain circumstances. The House Clerk’s Office recently compiled voting record data for each legislator. Rep. Carpino has earned a one hundred percent voting record for all roll call votes taken on the floor of the House of Representatives during the 2022 Regular Session. Informational Public Hearing on Proposed Insurance Rate Increases

The Connecticut Insurance Department is seeking public comment on health insurance rate hike proposals during an informational public meeting on August 15th. The rate hike proposals have been filed by nine of Connecticut’s health insurance companies. To review the proposed rate increases, you can click here.

Today, State Senator Matt Lesser (D-Middletown) announced that the State Bond Commission has approved funding for two projects Senator Lesser had championed.
