Rep. Carpino Offers Additional Solutions for State COVID-19 Response

HARTFORD – State Rep. Christie Carpino (Cromwell/Portland) drafted a letter to Gov. Lamont offering several solutions to assist Cromwell and Portland businesses and residents in the response to the COVID-19 outbreak. These proposals include better protection for our first responders and healthcare workers on the front line, a reduction on property tax payment penalties, and forgiveness for companies facing high unemployment insurance rates as they struggle to reopen.

Rep. Carpino has been assisting constituents with a variety of questions, concerns, and needs as the virus has continued to spread through Connecticut. “Every day presents a new challenge as we fight this virus,” said Rep. Carpino. She worked with colleagues to identify specific proposals that if enacted, would make an immediate difference in the lives of Connecticut residents during this difficult time.

“We all have two common goals, to defeat the coronavirus and to assist all of the families and businesses that have been negatively impacted through no fault of their own,” said Rep. Carpino. “It is our obligations as legislators to present the administration with actionable ideas. While these proposals cannot cure the virus, they can provide much needed resources to the hard-working families and businesses of Connecticut. It is my sincere hope that we can work with Gov. Lamont to apply these solutions. ”

The action items presented for consideration also include a fund to compensate small and medium businesses that have had a significant revenue drop due to this business interruption, a temporary redeploying of nonessential state workers to assist with critical areas of need such as processing  unemployment claims, and expediting the integration of qualified nursing students to assist with the demands on our current healthcare workers.
