CROMWELL- State Rep. Christie Carpino (Cromwell and Portland) is seeking a long-term solution to protect our school children and teachers by strengthening security measures in schools by requiring every school district in Connecticut to implement a panic system.
Under the legislation, every public school, elementary and secondary school in Connecticut would be required to install a panic system which would be used to protecting against threats in the school.
“If the Newtown tragedy has taught us anything, it is that we need to protect our precious children,” said Carpino. “We need to talk action.”
Carpino has gotten requests from parents and educators alike advocating for this legislation.
“Right now, across the state, there are many schools where kids and their teachers are sitting in fear. We need to be pro-active and make schools safe for our children,” said Carpino.
HB-5466 has been referred to the Education Committee for possible public hearing. Carpino is member of the Education Committee.
