Carpino Visits New Winery In Portland

PORTLAND- State Representative Christie Carpino visited Arrigoni Winery a new business in Portland today and received an education on the winery business.
Rep. Carpino toured the winery and gift shop located on Route 66 in Portland.
The Arrigoni Winery is a member of the CT Farm Wineries Passport Program and a stop on the CT Vine Trail. The winery sits on 200 acres of land where the wine is made and bottled. The facility contains a gift shop, a tasting room, a newly remodeled indoor eating and wine area and a patio overlooking the vineyard.
Unique to some wineries, Arrigoni Winery is open year round and is not just a seasonal business. The winery has begun to host guests who wish to hold special events or private parties after hours. Visit http://arrigoniwinery.com for the hours of operation.
“It is great to see a new business open in our community -particularly one owned by Portland residents. It is my hope Portland continues to see additional businesses open their doors in town and reinvigorate the Connecticut economy,” said Carpino.
“State government should not be an impediment but a partner for our local businesses. Connecticut has made it a priority over the last few years to promote local agriculture and buying CT grown foods. State efforts include supporting local agricultural enterprises and helping contribute to the health and viability of Connecticut’s rural economy, said Carpino.
There is also an intrinsically value of this new vineyard. It adds value to the land, provides additional jobs and increases the appeal of rural areas for tourists, said Carpino.
In 1978 the state passed the Connecticut Winery Act, making it legal for wine to be produced commercially. Since that time, entrepreneurs have researched, planted, and now, literally, stand by the fruits of their labor. The winemaking industry is now a significant agricultural entity for the state. Connecticut wines have been labeled world class and continue to be made with the highest quality and care by the wine makers.
