PORTLAND — State Rep. Christie Carpino today toured two local companies to collect their thoughts about the business climate in Connecticut, which consistently ranks among the least friendly to employers. Carpino met with Jason Jarvis (pictured above) at Jarvis Airfoil Inc., which manufactures parts used by companies such as Pratt & Whitney in their development of aircraft engines. Jarvis, who has a staff of about 75 people, told Carpino about excessive regulations Connecticut places on businesses as well as the tax burden they face.

Carpino had a similar conversation with the owners of Petzold’s Marine Center along the banks of the Connecticut River. Folks there expressed concern about legislative proposals that would’ve harmed an already-strained marine industry as well as a recent increase in the state’s sales tax their customers must pay.
