CROMWELL- State Rep. Christie Carpino (R-32) spent the afternoon touring three Cromwell businesses to collect their views about the state’s business climate and to offer support to the local employers.

Carpino said, “I want to remind local business owners in Cromwell and Portland that they have a supporter on the state level in Hartford. It’s a win, win for the community, the more successful businesses we have the more jobs we have for our workforce.”

Rep. Carpino visited Anytime Fitness, a new neighborhood 24 hour fitness center which opened on June 29th. Carpino met with Scott Regina, one of the club owners, as well as member services staffers Sam and Bryan, who gave her a tour of the Anytime Fitness facility.

Anyone interested in touring the Anytime Fitness facility or have questions should call or email Sam, (860) 635-4024 (860) 635-4024, cromwellct@anytimefitness.com.

Additionally, Carpino toured Cromwell’s new grinder shop Nardelli’s Grinder Shoppe with franchise owners Hani and Susan Shehata. The Shehata’s have been part of the Nardelli grinders business for the last 15 years and are excited about opening the Cromwell location.

“Hani, Susan and their two children not only opened a business in Cromwell but are committed to the community,” said Carpino.

Finally, Carpino visited Lighthouse Enterprises Inc., electrical contractors in Cromwell. Lighthouse Enterprises is not only a Cromwell business, but owner by Cromwell resident Mike Holcomb. Holcomb shared some of his experiences and offered suggestions of how the state could make doing business in Connecticut less burdensome. First and foremost, Holcomb echoed what many businesses in the district have already told Carpino-Connecticut is expense to operate a business.

Since her first term, Carpino has made it a priority to visit and promote different businesses in her district and let them know she will fight job killing legislation in the legislature. In 2011, Carpino helped pass a widely successful bi-partisan jobs package, which included the Small Business Express Program, a program which gives out low-interest loans to companies with fewer than 50 employees to expand facilities or hire additional employees and this year she voted to expand the program.

To date over 1,000 small businesses have received money through the program, including some in Carpino’s district
