MIDDLETOWN- Today State Rep. Christie Carpino helped kick off the Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center’s Go Pink fundraiser by having a pink streak put in her hair in honor of National Breask Cancer Awareness Month. Pink hair extensions and t-shirts are $20 are available all month, with all of the proceeds going to the Connecticut Susan G. Komen for the Cure Fund.
EG Salon owners Ellie Gagnon and Georgi Marino started this event 3 years ago in an effort to give back to the community. The event has grown and this year they have invited other salons to participate. Gagnon and Marino have a vision that this program will spread across the state.
EG Salon raised $12,000 in 2011 alone with over 400 participants. Each year the number of salons has grown as has the donations.
