CARPINO: STATE APPROVES LOWER ELECTRIC RATES

CROMWELL – State Rep. Christie Carpino (Cromwell and Portland) is happy to announce good news on the state of energy in Connecticut.

The state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) recently approved generation electric rate decreases to both UI (11.7 %) and CL&P (8%) customers. http://www.ctenergyinfo.com/2013_generation_rates.htm

These rate decreases will result in large savings for residential customers. The typical UI customer would save $162 next year and the typical CL&P customer will save $108 next year if they’re usage remained the same.

“In 2011, I supported major energy reform legislation (PA 11-80) which made it easier for companies to purchase power. It provides flexibility in our buying power and continues in the right direction to get the best prices for electric customers,” said Carpino. “I am glad we have already seen some of the fruits of this reform measure.”

Additionally, price of natural gas has been lower due to the discovery of shale gas which has created some conditions for this reduction.
