CROMWELL- State Rep. Christie Carpino spent Friday at Woodside Intermediate School talking to the students, and promoting “Connecticut Loves to Read Day” as well as “Take Your Child to the Library Day,” which is February 4th.
Rep. Carpino talked to all 450 students in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades at the reading assembly. She discussed various types of reading materials, showed several sample books, and discussed the various opportunities to learn and share resources at the town and school libraries. Carpino encouraged the kids to read for pleasure and to enrich their learning.
She also read two poems by author Shel Silverstein, “Messy Room” and “Homework Machine”, which were a big hit with the students.
Carpino said, “I was impressed with the students’ level of enthusiasm for reading. They were very engaging and seemed to understand how important reading is to furthering their education, as well as enjoyment.”
Carpino has had a long time love of literature; she majored in English in college, and believes reading is fundamental to educational success. She also reads to her own daughter.
