HARTFORD- On April 28th, State Rep. Christie Carpino, along with her daughter, participated in the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s (DEEP) Great Park Pursuit Spring Sprint.
The Sprint kicked off at Goodwin State Forest in Hampton and was touted as the Forest Education part of the race. DEEP had representatives on hand to teach the families about the different aspects of the forest, from fires to evasive insects, from seed dispersal and learning about a tree’s root system.
“This is a fun interactive program for families which promotes the great outdoors in Connecticut and also at the same time helps fights childhood obesity,” said Carpino.
Each year hundreds of Connecticut families sign up for the challenge to visit different State Parks and Forests over a four -week period as part of the Great Park Pursuit Spring Sprint. The families compete against other families statewide, by decoding clues that lead them to some of Connecticut’s most beautiful State Parks and Forests – all for a chance to win great prizes including a 2012 State Park and Forest Season Pass.
The event ran from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
