Carpino: Newtown Public Hearing Schedule

I wanted to provide you information on the upcoming Newtown Task Force hearings. The Task Force has broken down into three sub-committees, Gun Violence, School Security and Mental Health. I encourage those who wish to testify to attend to respective public hearing.
Below you will find the Public Hearing Notice:
- The School Security Sub Committee of the Bipartisan Task Force on Gun Violence Prevention and Children’s Safety will hold a public hearing following an informational forum on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. in Room 2C of the LOB. Please submit 30 copies of written testimony to the Education Committee staff by 10:00 A.M. in Room 3100 of the LOB. Testimony can be submitted through the Task Force’s web site at www.cga.ct.gov/asaferconnecticut. Testimony received after the deadline will be disseminated to Sub Committee members prior to the next scheduled meeting.
Sign-up for the hearing will begin at 9:30 A.M. in the LOB Atrium, and will be governed by a lottery system for anyone attending, including legislators. Elementary and secondary school students will be given priority. Speakers will be limited to three minutes of testimony.
- The Gun Violence Prevention Working Group will hold a public hearing following an informational forum on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. in Room 2C of the LOB. Please submit 30 copies of written testimony to Committee staff, preferably any day prior to the hearing, but no later than one hour prior to the start of the hearing in the First Floor Atrium of the LOB. Sign-up for the hearing will begin at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, January 28, 2013 in the First Floor Atrium of the LOB. Speaker order will be decided by a lottery, which will take place at 12:15 P.M. Those arriving after the completion of the lottery will have their names placed at the end of the speaker list. Speaker order will alternate between Legislators, Constitutional Officers, State Agency Heads and Chief Elected Municipal Officials and members of the public. Speakers will be limited to three minutes of testimony. All public hearing testimony, written and spoken, is public information. As such, it will be made available on the task force website and indexed by internet search engines. Unofficial sign-up sheets have no standing with the Committee.
SUBJECT MATTER: Gun Violence Prevention
- The Mental Health Working Group Public Hearing will be Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 at the Legislative Office Building at 10:00am, Room 2C.
- The Full Bi-Partisan Task Force Public Hearing will be Wednesday, January 30th, 2013 at Newtown High School 6:00pm.
