Member of Judiciary and Public Health committees

HARTFORD- State Representative Christie Carpino (Cromwell & Portland) on Monday received her legislative committee assignments from new House Republican Leader Themis Klarides.

Carpino was tapped to be the new Chairwoman of the Program Review and Investigations (PRI) committee on which she has served as a member the last two years.

As a member of the Program Review and Investigations (PRI) for the past 2 years I am deeply honored to have been chosen as Chairman for the 2015-2017 legislative session,” Rep. Carpino. “I am ready for the challenge and look forward to working hand-in-hand with the members of the committee and staff.”

The bi-partisan twelve-member committee is charged with examining “state government programs and their administration to ascertain whether such programs are effective, continue to serve their intended purposes, are conducted in an efficient and effective manner, or require modification or elimination.”

This past session, Carpino requested and received PRI committee support for a study of the Connecticut State Veterans Home in Rocky Hill and the treatment of our Connecticut veterans.

Additionally, Carpino, who is a practicing attorney, was re-appointed for a third term to sit on the powerful Judiciary committee. Carpino’s role on the Judiciary Committee will see her consider issues such as judicial procedures, criminal law, probate, probation, parole, estates and judicial nominations.

Carpino was also chosen to be on the legislature’s Public Health committee. The Public Health committee has cognizance of all programs and matters relating to the Department of Public Health; the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Department of Developmental Services; the Office of Health Care Access.

“I am particularly interested in the new challenge of the Public Health committee. Connecticut needs to find better ways to treat and identify those with mental illness,” said Rep. Carpino.
