PORTLAND- In an effort to meet local farmers and to learn about their industries in the district, State Rep. Christie Carpino (R-32) and State Senator Art Linares (R-33) toured Gotta’s Farm and Cider Mill is a 4th generation farm established in 1898 on October 16th.

Gotta’s Farm and Cider Mill grows plants, fruits, vegetables and full ornamentals, and offers strawberries, peaches, apples and pears that people can pick themselves when in season. Gotta’s is located at 661 Glastonbury Turnpike (Route 17) in Portland.

Gotta’s Farm maintains a farm stand bakery that makes pies, breads, and cookies, and they also participate in three regional Farmers’ Markets. For the holiday season, Gotta’s features a selection of Christmas trees and decorations.

“We need to continue to support our local farms and make sure state government is a partner and not an impediment to their success. The Gotta’s farm is a Portland institution and we need to make sure they succeed for generations to come,” said Rep. Carpino.

Sen. Linares said, “We thank the Gotta family for this tour and encourage taxpayers to contact us with ideas on how we can grow and retain agricultural jobs in Connecticut. Family farms make our region unique and we want to do all we can to preserve them and help them thrive.”
