CROMWELL — State Rep. Christie Carpino today participated in the opening ceremony for the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands and hailed the tradition that has sees the tournament donate its net proceeds. Carpino was among state and community leaders at the event, which featured a performance from a military band. The weeklong Traveler’s Championship donates to fundraising programs and more than 130 charities, including two strongly supported by Carpino: The First Tee of Connecticut and The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a nonprofit year-round center serving children and their families coping with cancer, sickle cell anemia and other serious illnesses. First Tee is a nonprofit organization that provides young people an opportunity to develop values such as confidence, perseverance and judgment through golf and character education.
