Carpino Hails Cromwell Resident Appointment to Veteran State Task Force

CROMWELL- State Rep. Christie Carpino (Cromwell and Portland) was pleased to announce today that Cromwell resident Edward Wenners, Professional Engineer, has been appointed to the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) Task Force by State House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-Norwalk.
Carpino, voted in favor of this task force, which is charged with assisting military veterans transition to civilian life by putting the skills they learn in the service to work in the civilian marketplace. “The men and women of our armed forces are highly skilled and trained individuals, with great discipline and outstanding work ethic. When they leave the military and return to civilian life sometimes the skills they learn in the service are not easily transferred here at home,” said Rep. Carpino.
Wenners is a distinguished and decorated military veteran who retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army who received three Bronze star Medals for achievement. Wenners also received the prestigious U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Silver DeFleury Medallion for 40 years of active and retired service to the Corps of Engineers. He is also the recipient of the “Most Outstanding Civil Engineering Alumnus Award for 2007 from Northeastern University.
Wenners said, “I am honored to be appointed by Rep. Carpino. The MOS Task Force will work to identify areas where prior military training can qualify veterans for civilian occupational licenses, then we will bring the findings to the legislature for action next year. Every veteran deserves a good job when they come home, and this effort should help many to find one.”
Special Act No. 13-5 charges the MOS Task Force to study the use of military occupational specialty training experience to satisfy training requirements for state licensing purposes, with the goal of aiding veterans in securing civilian employment.
The Task Force will examine occupational training provided to military service members and determine if such training is equivalent to that required for state licensing purposes for various professions, such as work in heating and cooling, mechanics, emergency medical services (EMTs), human resources, aviation, pharmaceuticals and other skilled trades.
