HARTFORD, CT – To honor a former Cromwell resident, State Senator Paul Doyle (D-Wethersfield) and State Representative Christie Carpino (R-Cromwell) earned final legislative approval for a bill that will name a portion of Route 3 in Cromwell the “Paul Roger Harrington Memorial Highway.” The portion of Route 3 runs from the Cromwell-Rocky Hill town line southerly to Evergreen Road.

“Paul Harrington’s military bravery and decades of distinguished service to our state and the town of Cromwell are deserving of our respect and immense gratitude,” said Sen. Doyle. “We do this in recognition of his dedication to his country, state, and family, and to honor an exceptional citizen.”

“By naming this road after Paul Harrington we ensure future generations will be able to appreciate his great service to our state and country,” said Rep. Carpino.

Paul Roger Harrington was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II who completed 51 missions in North Africa and Europe, and received two Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Harrington served for 20 years with the Connecticut State Police, from 1952-1972, retiring as Sergeant. He was one of the founding members of the Connecticut State Police Union, and was a member of the Connecticut State Employee Association, serving as union representative for five years.

He was elected First Selectman for the Town of Cromwell, serving from 1977–1985 and was voted DeSoto Council #6 Knights of Columbus first Cromwell Man of the Year in 1997.

The road naming passed the House and Senate as part of the annual Department of Transportation omnibus bill, Senate Bill 975. The bill awaits the governor’s signature.
