CROMWELL — State Rep. Christie Carpino today visited Cromwell High School to talk with members of Cromwell Awareness Youth Action Council about their efforts to curb drug and alcohol abuse among students as well as the state legislature’s efforts to ban controversial over-the-counter products, such as the incense salvia, that young people abuse as a way to get high. Above, CAYAC president James Demetriades, told Carpino about the group’s upcoming “white out” project, which will see students wear white shirts to school as a way to promote an alcohol-free prom. The four-year-old anti-drug, anti-drinking, anti-tobacco coalition has nearly 30 members. It has hosted a forum for students, parents and educators that examined hard truths about he decisions young people make and the consequences of those decisions. CAYAC began with a grant from the Middlesex county Substance Abuse Action Council.
