CROMWELL- State Rep. Christie Carpino celebrated opening day at the 2013 Travelers Championship today on the 1st Tee Box of the TPC River Highlands. The Travelers Championship is the largest sporting event in the state of Connecticut and calls Cromwell home.

Carpino applauded the annual golf championship, “As a Cromwell resident, I am proud our town is home of this event and how it brings out the spirit of community throughout the Greater Hartford Region.  From our hotels and shops to our restaurants this event has a positive economic impact on state and local communities and businesses.”

The Travelers Championship is proud to participate in the PGA TOUR Tradition of Giving Back. Since its inception in 1952, Connecticut’s PGA TOUR event has donated more than $30 million to charities in the surrounding community, including the Hole in the Wall Gang. Cameron Merritt, an 11 year old camper, shared a heartwarming perspective on why the Tournament is so important to the local community.
