Carpino Celebrates CT Golf Day

HARTFORD- State Rep. Christie Carpino (Cromwell and Portland) participated in the Second Annual Connecticut Golf Industry Day at the State Capitol on May 1st.
Golf associations and organizations throughout Connecticut were on display at the State Capitol which included many of the Connecticut Section PGA’s Allied Associations the CSGA, The First Tee of Connecticut, and the Travelers Championship.
Carpino particularly wanted to visit The First Tee of Connecticut which is based in Cromwell. She has volunteered with the organization since taking office as she shares many of the values they teach children. Carpino has proposed a bill this legislative session in an effort to promote a more active lifestyle for young people in Connecticut.
“First Tee is a great way to get kids outside,” said Rep. Carpino.
The First Tee of Connecticut is an initiative of the Connecticut Golf Foundation, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) organization. The Connecticut Golf Foundation was created to expose golf to underprivileged youth who might not normally have access to the game.
In 2012 The First Tee of Connecticut introduced the game of golf to over 40,000 young people through programs in their schools or communities and had over 1,300 young people enroll in certifying programs at golf facilities across the state.
Carpino said, “Both Portland and Cromwell are lush with golf facilities and organizations. I’m proud our towns do so much to boost interest in an industry which contributes so much to our economy.”
Golf in Connecticut is a $1.1 billion industry which supports 11,570 jobs with $336.6 million of wage income.
