PORTLAND – State Representative Christie Carpino and First Selectwoman Susan Bransfield announced the placement Portland of an unused prescription drop box in Portland. The box is located in the Portland Police Station’s lobby and was installed at no expense to the town.

Carpino helped identify a grant to fund the box, while Bransfield applied and procured the grant on behalf of the town.

“Every pill we can take off the street is one less pill out there to be misused. We now have a safe disposal method right here in Portland to help remove unneeded medication from our homes,” said Carpino, who serves on the General Assembly’s Public Health Committee.

Carpino went on to note that it is truly a team effort in combating the misuse and abuse of prescription drugs. The state-wide initiatives are only effective with cohesive teamwork with local municipalities. Carpino credits First Selectwoman Bransfield for being acutely aware of the opioid epidemic and working to provide resources to Portland.

“We would like to thank Representative Carpino for her leadership and for helping the Town of Portland get the prescription drop-off box. It will be extremely convenient and useful to our residents,” Bransfield said.

You can return your unused or unwanted prescription drugs Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm to the drop box in the Portland Police Department lobby, located at 265 Main Street. If the lobby is closed, then individuals can use the call box in front of the department for assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
