CROMWELL- State Rep. Christie Carpino (R-32) joined Mrs. Turley and her ECO Club (Environmental Club) from Cromwell High School in the 17th annual Source to Sea Cleanup along the Connecticut River at Cromwell Landing on Saturday October 5th.

The Source to Sea Cleanup is an annual trash clean-up of the Connecticut River and its tributaries along the four-state watershed (NH, VT, MA, CT). The cleanup is part of the larger National Estuaries Week, a national effort to raise awareness of the importance of protecting estuaries, as well as a partnership with Save the Sound, the International Coastal Cleanup and American Rivers’ National River Cleanup.

“I want to commend Mrs. Turley’s and her students for volunteering on their own time on a Saturday morning to help keep our great natural resource the Connecticut River clean. They must be making a positive impact since was being much less trash to collect than in years past.”

The program is run by Jacqueline Talbot, of the Connecticut River Watershed Council. Gloves and trash bags were distributed to the volunteers.

Since the cleanup began in 1995, 806 tons of trash has been pulled from the river and its banks.
