HARTFORD – State Rep. Christie Carpino (Cromwell & Portland) took time to visit local students to see what kinds of creative inventions they came up with at the State Capitol Annual Invention Convention Day.

The five student inventors from Cromwell schools developed innovative products.

    The inventions included:

    • A baby safe invention to prevent children from choking on objects.
    • A ‘Sun Shader’ to shade a porch without blocking your view.
    • A ‘Nail Holder’ tool which allows you to safely hit a nail into a piece of wood without striking your fingers.
    • An iSAVER which goes on your phone and attaches to your pants to prevent a smartphone from falling or getting lost or stolen.
    • iDESK, an erasable white board for your desk.

“I am so proud of these students. It is a fantastic opportunity for students to show off their creativity and to get involved with thinking outside the box,” said Rep. Carpino.

This is the 31st year of the Connecticut Invention Convention, which is a not-for-profit educational organization started in 1983 as part of the Connecticut Educators Network for the Talented and Gifted. The program is open to K-8 students statewide with instruction provided by local teachers. An estimated 100 CT schools and 10,000 students participate in the CIC each year.

Carpino praised the elementary school inventors for their creativity and hard work, as well as their imaginations.
