    Hartford – The year 2020 marks 100 years of women securing the right to vote in America. State Rep. Christie Carpino has announced an art exhibit for residents, groups, and organizations of Cromwell and Portland to participate in, commemorating the centennial anniversary of women’s suffrage. Submissions for the exhibit will be accepted from Monday, March 2 to Monday, May, 4. Submissions will be displayed at the State Capitol Complex at the end of May.

    “Women earning the equality they deserved was pivotal in American history,” said Rep. Carpino. “As a female elected official, celebrating this milestone is incredibly important to our grandmothers, mothers, and children.”

    Details for the art exhibit are below:

    • Art: Artists will submit a painting, drawing, or combination no larger than 18″ X 12″ canvas or poster board. The imagery should represent how the artist’s view of the suffrage movement.
    • Submission: Residents can drop off submissions to Cromwell Town Hall with Town Clerk, JoAnn Doyle, and Portland Town Hall with Town Clerk, Ryan Curley. Submission Forms can be accessed by clicking here.
    • Display: The commemorative artwork will be displayed at the State Capitol from Monday, May 18, through Thursday, May 28. Please note, any graphic, obscene, or potentially harmful imagery is not eligible to hang at the Capitol and the State Capitol Police have discretion.

    Rep. Carpino will conclude the exhibit with a public viewing at the Legislative Office Building on Thursday, May 28 from 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Contestants will be able to view the submissions and have the opportunity to take their pieces home at the conclusion of the reception.
