(HARTFORD) — State Representative Tim Ackert (R-Coventry) testified before the Higher Education and Employment Committee in support of Senate Bill 302: An Act Concerning Expanding the Tax Credit for Qualified Apprenticeship Training Programs and Establishing a Pilot Program for Children Interested in Trades. Ackert, who continues to be an advocate for quality education and our trades, shared how this bill would offer tax credits for certain trades industries, as well as introduce trade careers at an early age.

“This bill looks to introduce the trades at an earlier age,” said Ackert. “It will incentivize trade businesses and contractors to hire more apprentices, which is critical to support an aging workforce. To successfully fill jobs and meet consumer demand for skilled labor, we need to first eliminate the state-mandated hiring ratios that restrict the amount of apprentices a business can hire.”
