Reps. Ackert and Srinivasan Press Conference: Increasing the Age to Purchase Tobacco Products from 18 to 21

HARTFORD– State Representatives Tim Ackert (R-8) and Prasad Srinivasan (R-31) will be holding a press conference on Friday, March 18th at 10:00 a.m. to encourage their colleagues to pass Senate Bill 290- An Act Concerning the Sale and Purchase of Tobacco Products Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems and Vapor Products and Signage Concerning the Use of Such Products and Systems– which will increase the age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21.

 In June 2015, Hawaii became the first state in the country to increase the age from 18 to 21 to purchase tobacco products and other states around the country are now looking to pass similar measures to reduce tobacco use among our youth and young adults. According to the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, www.tobaccofreekids.org, at least 135 local municipalities in nine states, including New York City, Boston, Cleveland, and both Kansas Cities, have also raised the tobacco sale age to 21.
