HARTFORD- State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) wrapped up the first portion of his district-wide updates with constituents this week, meeting with residents from Coventry for Pints and Politics and Coffee Hour with residents in Vernon.

“Normally most of the time when I’m meeting with constituents, they are done in a coffee hour setting,” Rep. Ackert said. “It was nice to get together at the Lakeview Restaurant in a relaxing atmosphere where people could stop down after their normal work day was over and have an opportunity to talk about what is going on in Hartford.”

During the meeting, Rep. Ackert was asked several questions regarding the prospect of Connecticut adding tolls. Residents were concerned with where they would go, how much it could cost, and if implemented, would the revenue generated go toward infrastructure related projects. Other issues raised included government waste, this sessions bi-partisan budget agreement, election year politics, and invasive plants in Coventry Lake.

At the Vernon Senior Center, Rep. Ackert talked a little bit about himself, his committee assignments in the General Assembly, and then opened up the floor for questions.

Seniors were also concerned with the effect tolls might have on Connecticut, the major cost associated with their construction and who would pay for it. Crumbling foundations, Casino revenue, the Estate Tax, and affordable housing options for them were also discussed.

“It is extremely important to not only discuss the current state of affairs at the legislature, but also listen to the residents of the 8th district and hear about the issues that impact them the most,” Ackert said. “Listening and addressing their concerns is my number one priority.”

Rep. Ackert is scheduled to host two additional meetings with constituents this month and another one on August 1st.
