Rep. Ackert Praised DMHAS for funding Local Mental Health & Substance Treatment Agency

VERNON– State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) applauded the decision of the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) to award $149,849 in grant funding to The Village for Families & Children in Vernon to help them curb underage drinking and prescription drug abuse.

“I am appreciative of The Village for taking a proactive role in preventing underage drinking and prescription drug use,” said Rep. Ackert. “Our local communities are facing an opioid addiction crisis and it is imperative that we increase funding to organizations looking to eradicate this epidemic.”

The funding comes from a grant awarded to the state by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The Village will receive training and technical assistance from existing state resources to strengthen their prevention services by implementing SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework.

According to The Village, they help families overcome challenges by increasing community support and services for food, clothing, shelter, mental health and/or substance abuse treatment and other services.
